If you are frustrated by a form you have to complete, or if you are not keen to fill in online forms and need some help we are offering a form filling service to you on Tuesdays 1.30 – 3.30 pm and Thursdays 1.30 – 3.30 pm.

Be frustrated no longer. We can help you fill in those forms and get things moving. Passports, Freedom Pass, benefits applications including PIP, any form you are struggling with we will give you a helping hand.

Paediatric First Aid Course – May 2023

Paediatric First Aid Course – level 3.

Ofsted recognised – 20th May 2023

Paediatric First Aid – level 3 – this is a two-day course:

  • the classroom part of the course is on Saturday 20 May starting at 9.30 am prompt until 4.00 pm (approximately).
  • the online part of the course, which must be completed before the classroom-based part of the course on Saturday 20 May.

The online part of the course takes approximately 6 hours and can be completed over a couple of weeks.

This course is for childminders, anyone working with children in schools, afterschool projects, playschemes, etc. The cost of this course is £35. You will need to bring a piece of phot ID on the day.

Adult Learning, Employment and Support – spring 2023

Weekly sessions

Digital Skills and CV support – New Cross Gate Trust offers free high quality IT skills training to Lewisham borough residents. If you would like to learn any of the following please get in touch and register your interest. We offer: Computers for beginners, Excel, Powerpoint, online shopping and banking, using social media, staying safe online and much more. Support, help and self-advocacy  – We offer personalised support and information to any resident experiencing a problem affecting their well-being. Peer support group -this group meets once a week on Wednesday evenings and is for anyone finding daily life challenging and feeling their mental-health and well-being suffering. Day courses

Emergency First AidNext date in May 2023.  This is a one day level 3 course. The qualification covers the roles and responsibilities of the first aider and how to assess an incident, first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED, Providing first aid to a casualty who is choking, and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock. This course is certificated and the awarding body is TQUK. The cost is £10 unwaged or £50 waged. It is essential to bring photo ID on the day – your passport, driving licence etc. 

Food Safety – Industry Standard Qualification. Friday 17 February 2023 9.15am-4.15pm. this is a level 2 course designed to equip anyone working or planning to work in the service industries with an industry standard qualification in food safety and handling. It is an intense one day course. Topics include how to take personal responsibility for food safety, the importance of keeping clean and hygienic, the importance of keeping work areas clean and hygienic and the importance of keeping food safe. It is necessary for anyone working with food and use useful to enhance your CV. It costs £10 unwaged and £50 waged. It is essential to bring your photo (passport or driving licence). Paediatric First AidSaturday 04 March 2023 9.00-4.30pm. This is a two day course. Once day in the classroom and one day online, working from home or in the library. The online element has to be successfully completed before the day in the classroom. It is a level 3 course qualification awarded by Pro-Training and meets the ousted requirements for childminders and all other childcare workers. There is just one rate for this – £35. It is essential to bring photo ID on the day. there is a short multiple choice test at the end. Fire Safety Workplace Marshall TrainingFriday 03 March 2023 9.15-4.15pm. Level 2 certificate accredited by Highfield. This qualification is ideal for anyone looking to boost their CV or needing to learn about managing emergency fire situations. It costs £10 unwages and £50 unwaged. Safeguarding of Children and Young People – Next date in May 2023. This course is designed to give everyone who works with children, young people and their families an introduction to safeguarding children and young people. Those attending will gain knowledge and awareness about: legislation and guidance. the recognition of child abuse, identifying barriers to children and adults reporting their concerns; knowing how to respond and report concerns; who to contact when their is a concern and fulfilling ‘duty of care’, safe practice and keeping children and young people safe. The cost is £10 unwaged and £50 waged. 

ESOL lessons starting in September

In September, we will be offering a programme of blended English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) lessons, with some taking place within the centre and some being delivered online.

Registration for these courses will take place in person, at Besson Street Community Garden, Besson Street, SE14 5AS from Tuesday 1 September to Friday 4 September, 10am-3pm.

You can just turn up and ask for Helen. Please remember to wear a face covering. You will be asked to undertake a brief assessment to ensure that we put you in the right class according to your ability.
